A SERVICE FOR NERDS BY NERDS

We use a micro-CT scanner (specifically a XTH 225 ST) to look inside booster packs and sealed products. The scanner works by exciting an electrode to produce x-rays which are shot at the object while it rotates on a spinning disc (a manipulator). 

All objects absorb x-rays, with the absorption rate depending on the object's density. So the scanner acts as a density detector. It is the different densities between paper, plastic, carboard and foil that allow us to see inside unopened objects.
