Normal cards with a matt surface are inappropriate for scanning. There is no material difference between the character and the art box to detect with CT.
Holo cards with a matt silhouette in a foil art box or a foil silhouette in a matt art box are ideal subjects for scanning. The scan will clearly outline the character.
Reverse holo cards have the foiling around a matt art box with a matt character. As our process can only detect the foil sections of cards, this makes reverse holo cards very difficult to identify.
Layered foil cards can have multiple layers of foil details, allowing for Special Holo Details (SHDs). These differences in foil allow for details to be detected with CT.
Textured foil cards are a unique variety of card where the metallic layer has a distinctive pattern (usually outlining a character). These cards are excellent for the CT scanning process and should provide clear results.
A regional SHD is where a specific foil layer is used in a particular area. E.G. on Pokemon ex cards there are multiple foil layers which can be seen when looking at the cards at different angles. One layer always covers a specific feature, such as the eyes on Gengar ex.
Some highly collectible cards have letters / numbers etched in foil (e.g. MTG serialised range) which can be detected with CT.
Similar to Etched Text, some cards have detectable logos that can be used to help identify cards by narrowing the range of possibilities. But if the logo is entirely foil with no etching, you will only see its silhouette outline.
